I wasn't going to write a review, but I couldn't stop myself. Somethings have to be said. So here we go...This book was a trainwreck.

I don't even know where to start. I'm just staring at my computer, shaking my head, trying to decide what the best angle would be to attack this...thing.

Maise
I scrambled through my GIF's fifteen pages into reading this book and one GIF stuck out like a sore thumb. I picture Maise as Christina Ricci from the Adam's Family. I don't know why...Attitude and all.

Her character wasn't likable at all. She treated everyone, aside from Evan, like shit. She was arrogant as hell. For example: I knew I looked better than the girl who'd spent 3 hours trying to perfect her hair; meanwhile I'm dressed in short shorts and a flannel shirt with most of the buttons, unbuttoned. <--the data-blogger-escaped-along="" data-blogger-escaped-br="" data-blogger-escaped-lines="" data-blogger-escaped-of="" data-blogger-escaped-quote="" data-blogger-escaped-that.="" data-blogger-escaped-the="" data-blogger-escaped-was="">
The first chapter was written okay. I liked the carnival scenes and understood that Maise had Daddy issues. She blames everyone for the way she is, aka a slut. This book was like a parody of "Election", starring Reese Witherspoon, Matthew Brodwick, and Chris Klein. It was atrocious. The writing was okay in chapter 1, but I slowly saw it deteriorating in the second chapter and so on and so on. It almost seemed like the author busted her ass on chapter 1 to get everyone interested, but then said to hell with the rest.

Evan
I really have nothing good to say about him either. Usually I will hang on because of the heartthrob just to see if it goes anywhere. Evan had no personality what-so-ever. I didn't understand why she was so attracted to him...The way the author wrote his appearance confused me, along with the actions...His character was just boring.

The good, the bad, and the ugly
1) The sex scenes. No. Hell no. I understand that author's have to be descriptive, but the way these scenes were written...Terrible.
2) Maise's behavior towards Wesley and just everyone else in general. She acts like a spoiled brat who whines every time she doesn't get her way. Now in the author's defense, she does make it known on MANY accounts that Maise is a TEENAGER and has GIRLY hormones, but that did little to help. I've been around teenage girls and this author just took it overboard.
3)The mother issues. Give me a break. It's like every other erotica book out there right now. Daddy issues, check. Mommy issues, check. Family doesn't love me, check. The whole list is just checked off with this one, okay? It's a feel sorry for Maise parade all around. The author made Maise so immature that she wasn't relatable to her audience.
4) Feelings...I felt nothing. When the dialogue popped up for both characters, I felt nothing. And that's weird because the author wrote SO many feelings that were thrown into the pit to amp up the writing. In the end I just didn't find any of those feelings believable. It was like Maise was a prostitute and Evan was her pimp. Where do you go when you can't feel anything from either character and the sex scenes are horrendous? Nowhere. There is nowhere to go. The book is erotica for Pete's sake.
I had to pull the plug on this one.

The plot/writing/characters were not enough to push me to finish this book. By page 47 out of 157 I was throwing in the towel. When Evan took Maise to the hotel and I read the amateur wannabe sex scene from Unfaithful, I just couldn't continue.

And I know that some of my friends think I'm just too picky or whatever, but I don't see it that way. I blame it on lackluster writing, courtesy of the Fifty Shades epidemic. Those are the standards erotica/YA authors have been given and no one wants to break free of the bubble. They think they can get away with some Ana Steele tacky-subconcious and call it a day. Unteachable didn't have the subconscious doing crazy shit, but some of the metaphors were ridiculous. The ones relating to film, in general, had me rolling my eyes.
DISAPPOINTED
